Heidi Lynn's Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Rebecca Boxall, Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for providing me this book so I may bring you this review.

The Christmas Forest by Rebecca Boxall is one of the few Christmas books that I have read that will stick close to my heart. This Christmas story is unlike I have ever read before. I prefer reading stories that are creative where the author thinks outside of the box. She did just that. For this very reason I would gladly read and review for her again.

Rebecca Boxall’s main character is Enid suffers from Asperger’s. What makes this book so unique and unforgettable is you see the world through her eyes.   You will see the joy she gets spending time with children and speaking about her love of owls. How they are on the same level she is. Sadly, in this book you will see her in panic mode and emotional lows as well.

My ultimate favorite story line that Rebecca did and needs to be highly commended for was the budding friendship between Enid and Fred. I have read and 190 books this year. No two characters deserved to be together more. Nor have I read a sweeter yet old fashioned love story than this one. Fred looked past Enid’s Asperger’s and saw who she really was. He loved her for her. These two were meant to be together.

It was refreshing to see Enid and Fred write old school letters back and forth through the mail as form of communication. This day in age with texting and email that is lost on this generation.
Kudos to the graphic artist who designed the cover it is beautiful! It immediately caught my eye and needed to know what the book was about.

At the end of this book Rebecca does give some references to Asperger’s. Many are documentaries and some books.

This book would be great turned into a Hallmark Christmas Channel Movie. It has a lot of great elements to be a big hit. I would definitely watch it!!

The Bug Jar

Review written by HeidiLynn's BookReviews

First, I want to thank Ava Black and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

I am a huge fan of psychological thrillers but never have I read a prologue to a book that shocked me so much as this Ava Black’s The Bug Jar. Warning to readers you may want to skip this section of the book. With that being said dang what a way to start off the book!! You not only shocked the heck out of me you got my total and undivided attention. He was a sick and troubled kid and well it made for a good story!!

This book touches on a very important topic mental illness. Ava brings up stalking, bipolar disorder, depression, animal cruelty by the hands of his owner.

Sam quick wit sarcastic humor made me laugh out loud. Especially about Sam’s take on makeup and her customers buying her makeup products.

I loved how Sam wanted a better life than the one she had. However, having an affair with the soon to be Mayor and hoping he will leave his wife wont work. Sam was delusional and had mental issues that she saw a shrink for.

I could totally see this being an independent movie at the small movie theaters. I think it would do well actually.

Ava’s description, attention and ability to tell a story that is totally outside the box that has never been done before is incredible.

I absolutely loved the cover of the book. It captured the essence of not only the title but the feel of the book as well. Kudos to the graphic artist and the one who came up with the idea.

If you like books about cheating spouses, death of a child, unstable individuals, political campaigns, police investigations, troubled youth, stalkers, then this book might be for you.

Her One Mistake
By Heidi Perks
Review by HeidiLynn's Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Heidi Perks, Simon & Schuster, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Heidi Perks just became my favorite Psychological Thriller Author after reading Her One Mistake!! Heidi brings you into the story, introduces you to the characters, makes you think what is going on, then the ball is totally dropped on the reader!! Be prepared to have your jaw drop and the story to be switched. You think you know how the story will end-but you have no clue!!

I was very impressed with Heidi with how she developed the characters into the storyline. How we didn’t learn all their secrets all at once. Once we found out their true colors I was shocked! She is truly a gifted writer/storyteller who was passionate about this story. She definitely knows how to hook her readers into the story and not let go until the book is done.

The story was told in different perspectives from three different characters. Heidi also wrote in before the abduction and modern day. These two made the story very interesting.

Kudos to the graphic artist who did the cover of the book. I thought it was spot on to the theme of the book. Not to mention I really liked it.

There is one life lesson to take away from this book though. If you have kids and are out in public watch them and not your phone! Someone could snatch them while you are looking. Another thing is that Facebook and Social Media can be so cruel in situations like this. Talking bad about the person when you don’t know the truth or their side of the story. There are two sides to every story.

My heart broke for Harriet on so many occasions in this book. If anyone in this book needed a hug it would be her!! She was a strong woman through all of this!

Out of all the characters in this book Brian was the one I loathed the most. In the beginning of the book something was off about him. At the end of the book I was not a fan of all. Too many reasons why. You will have to read the book to find out why!

I loved how in the acknowledgements how she thanked her Mum. How ever since she was eight she told her she can write and she has never stopped supporting her since.

First, I want to thank Tasche Laine, Sky Blue Press and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Get ready for your heart to go on an emotionally drowned roller coaster ride while reading this book!! If you read this book and don’t shed some tears I will be shocked! I was bawling my eyes out in many parts of the book. Tasche Laine is officially one of my new favorite authors!! I must read and review for her again!!

Warning: this book discusses tough issues that may trigger some readers might such as rape, talk about abortion, terrorist attacks on 911, and clinical depression.

Kudos to her Graphic Artist for her cover. It is a beautiful picture of two kids side hugging on a deck over looking a lake. I will admit that pulled on my heart strings. It was one of the deciding factors plus the blurb to read the book. I am thankful for NetGalley for having this book offered on their list. You can find some great authors and publishers such as Tasche Laine and Sky Blue Press.
She says so in the book. This is not a love story this a life story-based on her own life. I did love the love story between Tasha and Trey over the years. That was a unique story.

My heart went out to Tara on many different occasions. So many times I wanted to jump into the book and give her a hug. Some of the situations she was put in so was I.

There are so many incredible lessons in this book to be learned by Tasche! Some eye-opening insights as well.

What made this book incredibly special was it came from Tasche’s heart since it was her own personal story. You could tell how much the characters meant to her. How truly special Trey was to her and their relationship over the years. Plus, the life lesson she learned through all of this.
This book had so many twists and turns to it. You didn’t know what was going to happen!

This is one book that I feel strongly should be made into a Hallmark Channel Movie. I think it would do amazingly well.

This book deserves more than 5 stars in my opinion!! It had a little bit of everything you could want in a book.

Review: Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage

Author
Zoje Stage
#NetGalley

First, I want to thank Zoje Stage, St. Martin’s New York and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Baby Teeth by Zoje Stage had me very interested in this for many different reasons. First off the author mentioned she worked part time at the Monroe County Library in Rochester, NY where she started writing novels. I used to live in Rochester, NY and frequented that library. Learning this about the author made me more intrigued to read the book.

Hannah was a very unique character one which I had never experienced before in any other book. At first you feel sorry for the sweet girl because she mute. But as the story goes on she is not that sweet and innocent girl you think she is.

Suzette the Mom pulled on my heart strings a little bit. Hannah did not give her Mom the easiest time when she would homeschool her. Plus, the stress was not good on Suzette’s Chr disorder.

Alex the father was caught in the middle of both his wife and his daughter whom he loved dearly.

If you like mystery, thrillers, twists and turns this is the book for you!!

Review:Broken Reality by Robert Kaufman

Review
A Broken Reality

First, I want to thank Rob Kaufman and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

If you are a parent you are going to want to hold your child a little closer tonight after reading this book. Rob Kaufman’s A Broken Reality is an incredibly chilling, shocking, intense, emotionally painful, heart wrenching novel about a missing boy out in a middle of a winter storm. This book is filled with secrets, stalkers, abductors, vandalism, threats, missing persons, investigations, extremely worried parents, etc.

Rob did an incredible job throwing you into the craziness of the story! This hooked me so fast onto the story! A missing child in the middle of a snow storm and you are trying not to get into an accident yourself. How exciting yet scary is that! Every parent worst nightmare come true!!! For the first part of the book I was on the edge of my seat!!!

One amazing aspect about Rob’s writing is his eye for bringing out the detailed emotions in his characters. I was overwhelmed by that. I could feel exactly what each character was feeling and how much they were suffering. I am not a parent but I could not imagine if that was my child out there in those weather conditions. Not knowing where he is! Not knowing if he is safe, if someone has him, if someone hit him, etc! His mom had not heard from him for weeks and thinking the worst! My heart went out to her! We as readers needed to feel the emotions she was going through. Rob was the king of that!

On the subject of Jesse there was one scene where I wanted to scream at Melissa I was so upset with her!! Of course, Jesse was withdrawn, he lost weight, he was worried about Danny, he was not himself emotionally or mentally. Danny was missing! Jesse was in an accident himself. He couldn’t find Danny. He didn’t know if he was dead or alive. That would all take a toll on someone! Melissa didn’t get that.

Review: Bullied to Death: A Story of Bullying, Social Media, and The Suicide of Sherokee Harriman by Judiith A. Yates

Author Judith A. Yates

First, I want to thank Judith A. Yates, Wild Blue Press and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Bullied to Death? A Story of Bullying, Social Media, And the Suicide of Sherokee Harriman by Judith A. Yates is an incredibly powerful, eye opening book, of how hateful verbal bullying effects someone emotionally, self-esteam, mentally and eventually to the point of doing harm to themselves. This is a book EVERY Parent, Uncle, Aunt, Health Teachers, Social Workers must read to understand our youth today and help if we see bullying happen.

Kudos to Elijah Toten for the incredible book cover design. That is what originally drew me to the book itself. After seeing the tile of the book and the blurb I knew I had to read it. I am a huge fan of true crime books and this seemed like it was literally ripped from the headlines. Plus, as a middle schooler and high schooler I was bullied at school for being born differently. However, never in a million years would I think of ever doing what Sherokee did!

Review: It's All Your Fault by J.C. Lewin #NetGalley

#NetGalley
First, I want to thank J.C. Lewin, BE, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

An Incredibly gripping debut novel from J.C. Lewin in All Your Fault! A book that had so many twists, turns and an ending you never saw coming! It is a book you will start and won’t want to put down til you see what happens to Teigan! Trust me on this one I was up til wee hours of the night reading this book!

This book tackles tough subjects like missing children, pedophile, murder, abduction, problems within social services, domestic abuse, suicide. For this reason, this book was emotional on many levels and you felt for so many of the characters.

There was an extremely interesting scene in the book with Monty explaining about his thoughts on Pedophilia.  Even though I don’t agree with it at all. He did have a point if you knew your child had the gene would you abort your child?

This is a story of every mother’s nightmare where their child goes missing. Where she goes to great lengths to find out what happens to her. However, she is one of the suspects in the case. Plus, she is a social worker with failed cases.

I loved the investigation aspect of the book. Trying to figure out what actually happened to Tiegan! I absolutely love books like this!

At the end of the book there is a chat with the author J. C. Lewin. She like Suzanne in the book is a social worker. However, she quit her job to be a writer as that was her dream!

In the chat with the author section she mentions that her favorite character was Monty. You can totally tell that she put her heart and soul into this character. I can agree with her that there is a challenge to the reader and their preconceptions. Monty seems like a monster at first. But you have to dig deeper into him and his character. His end fate is sad though.

This is an AMAZING book by an incredible author! This is a must-read book for those who like very gripping suspenseful books! You will be biting your nails and on the edge of your seat with this one.  Plus, hugging your loved ones a little closer!

First, I want to thank Ameila Hendrey for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Warning to fellow readers this book is not for everyone. This book has topics such as violence, domestic abuse, verbal abuse, rape, abandonment at age 3, and could be a trigger to many. The material in this book is not for the faint of heart. Read at your own risk.

Ameila Hendrey is one of the bravest and one of the strongest woman I know to share her story in What Nobody Knew.  This is her story of the emotional, mental and most of all the horrid physical pain that was inflicted by her father over and over throughout the years. How her Step Mom just let it happen and how her biological Mom at age 3 abandoned her.
So many times I wanted to jump in the book and rescue her from everything that was going on.

You cant help but get emotionally attached to this character whom pulls on so many of your heart strings. Infact, there are two times in this book that I literally cried for Amelia! I said this once and I will say it again nobody deserves what Amelia went through. This is one book that will stick with you way after the book ends.

One of the aspect of the books that I really enjoyed were the reports from Social Services. You got their view of what they thought what was really happening to Ameila. Obviously, some personal information to respect the privacy was left out.

However, In this story you got Ameila’s truth, her father’s lies, and what Social Services.

I seriously think this would make an awesome movie on Lifetime TV or a Netflix Original.
