Five years ago, an innocent man began a life sentence for murdering his own son. Today he found out his son is still alive.

David Burroughs was once a devoted father to his three-year-old son Matthew, living a dream life just a short drive away from the working-class suburb where he and his wife, Cheryl, first fell in love--until one fateful night when David woke suddenly to discover Matthew had been murdered while David was asleep just down the hall.

Half a decade later, David’s been wrongly accused and convicted of the murder, left to serve out his time in a maximum-security prison—a fate which, grieving and wracked with guilt, David didn’t have the will to fight. The world has moved on without him. Then Cheryl’s younger sister, Rachel, makes a surprise appearance during visiting hours bearing a strange photograph. It’s a vacation shot of a bustling amusement park a friend shared with her, and in the background, just barely in frame, is a boy bearing an eerie resemblance to David’s son. Even though it can’t be, David just knows: Matthew is still alive.

David plans a harrowing escape, determined to achieve the impossible – save his son, clear his own name, and discover the real story of what happened. But with his life on the line and the FBI following his every move, can David evade capture long enough to reveal the shocking truth?

This is my home, I love it here. It’s the only place I feel really safe, I can’t imagine living anywhere else.’ I look at him. ‘And I never want that to change. I’ll do whatever I need to.’

Carly had thought they’d live there forever. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively re-designed and renovated – a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cosily on the sofa watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets…

Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.

Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Amy Parker, Tommy. Nelson Books and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

How to Get a Mommy To Sleep by Amy Parker gave my heart full and made me smile. I may not be a mommy but I could appreciate this book being a very proud Auntie. I could tell that she wrote it from her heart.

This book is everyone who has mothered Amy and shown her what motherhood has meant to them: tireless, unique humans raising tired like unique humans-all created in the perfect image of God.

This is the second children’s book I have read of Amy’s and illustrated by Natalia. As I said in the past they are a really great team. I felt a stronger connection with this book emotionally not to mention it was comical too. Natalia did an incredible job creating comical coloring book-like graphics when it related to the story.

I really enjoy her Illustration skills. I also like how she intertwined Amy’s faith into the picture by having the Bible on the bed.

Like in her other book Amy had a prayer at the end of the book.

This would be a great book for a mother to read to her son or daughter at bedtime.

First, I want to thank Jess Hernandez, Capstone and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Jess Hernandez did an incredible job with her debut children’s book First Day of Unicorn School. What little girl or big kid at heart like myself doesn’t just adore unicorns?! She knew just how to attract our attention in that aspect. Well done.

Mariano Epelbaum needs to be commended not only for his amazing cover design but all of the graphics in the book. The colors were bright, bold and just popped out. His graphics just made the story come to life all the more. Infact, there were times his graphics made me crack up!

Jess threw in some very important hidden messages within the pages. Messages that everyone needs to hear this day in age. Even us young at heart. The way she executed it was perfect.

I really do hope that she continues to write children’s books. My other hope is that she sticks with Mariano because he is incredibly talented and they both make a great team together.

Book Summary

Who knew death could be so eclectic? Relish this mesmerizing murder mystery mash-up of short stories.

The stories include the 2019 SIA Award-Winning Murder Mystery Short Story ‘The Rose Slayer.’

Murder and mystery have been the staple of literature and films for years. This anthology of short stories will thrill and entertain you. Some will also make you laugh out loud. Others will stop and make you think.

Think of this murder mystery short story anthology as a book version of appetizers or starters, hors d'oeuvre, meze, or antipasti. It can be read as fillers between books or, as is the case in some countries, as a bookish meze - in its own right.

Review: Watch Me by Jody Gehrman

#NetGalley
Book Summary

For fans of dark and twisty psychological thrillers, Watch Me is a riveting novel of suspense about how far obsession can go.
Kate Youngblood is disappearing. Muddling through her late 30s as a creative writing professor at Blackwood college, she’s dangerously close to never being noticed again. The follow-up novel to her successful debut tanked. Her husband left her for a woman ten years younger. She’s always been bright, beautiful, independent and a little wild, but now her glow is starting to vanish. She’s heading into an age where her eyes are less blue, her charm worn out, and soon no one will ever truly look at her, want to know her, again.
Except one.
Sam Grist is Kate’s most promising student. An unflinching writer with razor-sharp clarity who gravitates towards dark themes and twisted plots, his raw talent is something Kate wants to nurture into literary success. But he’s not there solely to be the best writer. He’s been watching her. Wanting her. Working his way to her for years.
As Sam slowly makes his way into Kate’s life, they enter a deadly web of dangerous lies and forbidden desire. But how far will his fixation go? And how far will she allow it?
A gripping novel exploring intense obsession and illicit attraction, Jody Gehrman introduces a world where what you desire most may be the most dangerous thing of all.

Review by HeidiLynn's BookReviews

First, I would like to thank Jody Gehrman, St. Martin’s Griffin, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Watch Me: A Gripping Psychological Thriller by Jody Gehrman was one of the best books that I have read this year!! I love books in this genre that have you at the edge of your seat wondering what is going to happen next! This book had something for everyone’s taste: taboo subjects like forbidden professor student flirtation turned into sick twisted fascination, sex, birth of a baby, messed up mom on drugs, murder, criminal investigation, blunt agents, etc.
Even though this book is a Psychological book it had me cracking up laughing at times. An example of this is when he was describing Jess to the readers on her appearance and how he so was not interested. Funny, because he kept turning her down but that didn’t stop her from asking. Sam sarcasm was too funny at times!
I could see this book being made into a movie and it being a box office hit.
