The Invitation: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller with a killer twist

That’s the thing about old friends… they never let you forget.

The first time Jemma and Matt were invited to Polskirrin – the imposing ocean-view home belonging to Matt’s childhood friend Lucas Jarrett – it was for an intimate wedding that ended in tragedy. Jemma will never forget the sight of the girl’s pale body floating listlessly towards the rocky shore.

Now, exactly one year later, Jemma and her husband have reluctantly returned at Lucas’s request to honor the anniversary of an event they would do anything to forget.

But what Lucas has in store for his guests is nothing like a candlelight vigil. Someone who was there that night remembers more than they’ll admit to, and Lucas has devised a little game to make them tell the truth.

Review: Fairy-Tailed Wish By Megan Pighetti #ChildrensBook

Fairy-Tailed Wish By Megan Pighetti
Review by Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Megan Pighetti for providing me with this children’s book so I can bring you this review.

Fairy-Tailed Wish  by Megan Pighetti is a really cute book that kids young and old will love.

It was so cool how Megan wished all the Birthday Fairies bring joy to other children's lives as they have brought to hers.

Tamara Piper is an incredibly talented illustrator. I am a huge fan of fairies and Tamara did an incredible job drawing them. They were so cute and detailed. The colors in the book popped off the pages. Her illustrations went perfectly with the story. She and Megan make a good team.

I love how there is a place in the book for your special little one to put their name.

One thing I thought was comical was all the toilet paper used in this book. Knowing what we are going through in today's time. However, I think the kids would think it is funny.

The real life pictures at the end of the book through the years were very cool to see.

EXCERPT (book 1):

DARLA

The last everloving fucking thing I expected to see as I drove down I-76 toward my lit-tle hometown of Peters, Ohio was a buck-naked man wearing a spiked collar and a gui-tar.

I mean, only wearing a collar and a guitar. The man was barefoot, for goodness sake. On the highway. In May, in Oh-fucking-hi-o, where winter isn’t a season but a state of mind.

How could I not stop and offer him a ride? Seriously? Where was he hiding a weapon? Okay, Okay, maybe up there, but think about it for a minute. He’d have to twist quite a bit to access anything he hid up his puckered—well, there!

And he wasn’t a bit hard on the eyes, either. Kind of a Brad Pitt circa 1991 look, be-fore he married Miss Toothpick and then left her for that wan Elvira and her weak Michelle Duggar imitation.

Anyhow…back to the naked hitchhiker. My 1986 Toyota Tercel wasn’t anything special but it, um, had a floor. And a windshield. And a place for Mr. Naked to rest his weary nuts. The vinyl might be cracked and faded and it wasn’t no Giving Tree from that Shel Silverstein book, but at least the man could give his balls a rest. Those muscles looked like they could sure use some eyes hungrily ogling them, too, for they screamed for loving attention. If I couldn’t touch, I could at least be the one to stare, right? I’m a giver like that.

Always thinking about others.

Review: Boy From The Woods By Harlan Coben #NetGalley

The Boy From The Woods

In the shocking new thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Run Away, a man whose past is shrouded in mystery must find a missing teenage girl before her disappearance brings about disastrous consequences for her community . . . and the world.

The man known as Wilde is a mystery to everyone, including himself.  Decades ago, he was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. After the police concluded an exhaustive hunt for the child’s family, which was never found, he was turned over to the foster system.

Now, thirty years later, Wilde still doesn’t know where he comes from, and he’s back living in the woods on the outskirts of town, content to be an outcast, comfortable only outdoors, preferably alone, and with few deep connections to other people.

When a local girl goes missing, famous TV lawyer Hester Crimstein–with whom Wilde shares a tragic connection–asks him to use his unique skills to help find her. Meanwhile, a group of ex-military security experts arrive in town, and when another teen disappears, the case’s impact expands far beyond the borders of the peaceful suburb. Wilde must return to the community where he has never fit in, and where the powerful are protected even when they harbor secrets that could destroy the lives of millions . . . secrets that Wilde must uncover before it’s too late.

Review: Shrink Rapt By Freda Hansburg

Shrink Rapt By Freda Hansburg
Review by Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Freda Hansburg for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Shrink Rapt by Freda Hansburg was just the medical thriller/suspense book that I have been craving to read.

Right from the beginning Freda caught my attention with the pharmaceutical medical trial the main character. If you know me I am fascinated with the medical field and used to be in it. So, I love reading medical thrillers. I can comprehend the medical terminology and procedures that are listed in the books-where others may not.

I just had to laugh at the part of the book when Freda talks about Go Cupid. I wondered if she meant OK Cupid which is a similar dating site that she mentioned. I admit I tried that site out and it was a joke. I fully agree that all those questions are way too much!

I found it quite comical that she named her tabby cats Boris and Natasha.

I found the session with Lowell Morgenstern had with his patient Tyrell Johnson when he was on the medication Pacifil very fascinating. It made me more interested in the story and wonder what this drug was honestly doing to the patients.

The patients you meet in this book will just blow your mind. Like one of them had multiple personality disorder with 26 alters. Now that is someone who would be fascinating to talk to. Freda came up with some very unique characters that I have never read about in previous books. It made for a very interesting yet sometimes disturbing read.

Freda brought up a very important topic in this book. She wrote in a storyline  about a survivors group. It was about trauma dealing with physical and sexual abuse. There were four patients who had different stories to tell. Each so different and unique than the ones you are used to hearing. Many of them I wanted to reach out and hug because I felt empathy for what they went through.

Even though this is a short book it does not lack an incredible story that keeps your attention.

I Would Never…But If I Did
Maria Ann Green
Publication date: April 10th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Taryn Sams doesn’t believe in love. Period. Every time she’s gotten close, her happiness has been ripped from her, proving once again the only thing worth believing in is the inevitability of her own – and others – screw ups.

For Austin Wright, Taryn is the one who got away. But really, if he’s honest with himself, he pushed her away, with one hard shove. He did the one thing he told her he never would do, and shattered both of their hearts. But it’s been years since then, and somehow Austin and Taryn found a way to be friends, albeit dysfunctional ones.

Theo Evans is the other man in Taryn’s life. He’s also Austin’s best friend. But, to be fair, he’s been in love with Taryn longer. He accepts Taryn as she is, broken, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to be the one she chooses in the end.

Taryn isn’t the only one with someone else in her life. Austin has a girlfriend he’s trying to see a future with even though she can’t live up to those that came before. Yet they keep coming back together like magnets, unable to resist the pull to each other. Taryn continues her relationship with Theo while starting up again with Austin, willing to give him one more shot though not willing to let go of Theo just yet. While juggling the two men, she’s hoping that her once-bitter heart will eventually open up and tell her who to choose, hoping that she isn’t deluding herself yet again about what’s real and what’s possible.

Can love win Taryn over, or will she screw up her own life yet again, and the lives of at least three others in the process?

It all started with the wrong Help Wanted ad. Of course it did.

I’m a professional fluffer. It’s NOT what you think. I stage homes for a living. Real estate agents love me, and my work stands on its own merits.

Sigh. Get your mind out of the gutter. Go ahead. Laugh. I’ll wait.

See? That’s the problem. My career has used the term “fluffer” for decades. I didn’t even know there was a more… lascivious definition of the term.

Until it was too late.

The ad for a “professional fluffer” on Craigslist seemed like divine intervention. My last unemployment check was in the bank. I was desperate. Rent was due. The ad said cash paid at the end of the day.

The five of us? We’re the Brooklyn Brothers.
And we protect what’s ours.
