Book Summary

Who knew death could be so eclectic? Relish this mesmerizing murder mystery mash-up of short stories.

The stories include the 2019 SIA Award-Winning Murder Mystery Short Story ‘The Rose Slayer.’

Murder and mystery have been the staple of literature and films for years. This anthology of short stories will thrill and entertain you. Some will also make you laugh out loud. Others will stop and make you think.

Think of this murder mystery short story anthology as a book version of appetizers or starters, hors d'oeuvre, meze, or antipasti. It can be read as fillers between books or, as is the case in some countries, as a bookish meze - in its own right.

These stories come from an international cast of authors; some with bestselling books, others are emerging or new talents. Their roots, cultures, and life experiences are as diverse as their writing styles.

But one thing binds them together: they know how to tell a story.

There’s murder mystery styles and locations to suit all tastes: detective fiction, serial killers, scifi, histfic, LA, England, The Great Lakes, Las Vegas, the Nevada desert and more in an exquisite exposition of the art of short story telling.

The ten authors who have contributed to the anthology are:

Stephen Bentley
Greg Alldredge
Kelly Artieri
Robbie Cheadle
Michael Spinelli
L. Lee Kane
Kay Castaneda
Aly Locatelli
Justin Bauer
& 'G' Posthumously

Each author introduces his or her stories and the theme that lies behind them.By the time you finish the book, you will agree the result is a mesmerizing murder mystery mash-up.

First, I want to thank Stephen Bentley, Greg Alldredge, Kelly Artieri, Robbie Cheadle, Michael Spinelli, L. Lee Kane, Kay Castaneda, Aly Locatelli, Justin Bauer G, Hendry Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Death Among Us is an Anthology of Murder Mystery Short Stories written by Stephen Bentley, Greg Alldredge, Kelly Artieri, Robbie Cheadle, Michael Spinelli, L. Lee Kane, Kay Castaneda, Aly Locatelli, and Justin Bauer G.
This is a collection of short stories of great creative abilities and imaginations from authors from many countries. Many of these stories are written in American or British English.

One of my favorite authors in this book is Buffalo, NY’s own Kelly Artieri. She is a professional illustrator and award-winning author of a personal memoir ‘A Spot in My Heart.’ I also had the pleasure of reading that book. That too was an incredibly informative and touching book. That book was Awarded the Grand Prize of the 2017 TCK Publishing Readers Choice, her book not only won top honors, but it was also voted the winner in the memoir genre. Kelly is extremely passionate storyteller about real life. She now is using that creative voice at story telling murder mystery style.

Kelly has four stories in this book First Comes Lightning, Bad Bones and That’s What Best Friends Are For.
I really enjoyed her story Red Solo Cup. One of the reasons I enjoyed it so much is she placed her story in her hometown where I also live. She put a smile on my face with all the references to local places.

A smile came to my face when I read that there was a Dalmatian by the name of Jack. If you know Kelly then you know she loves Dalmatians.

Personally, I have a soft spot for all things Toronto. Plus, have in the past been to the CN Tower back in the day. This too made me smile.

I loved the mystery behind what happened to Maggie. I could not help but laugh at the whole hydros ordeal!

That’s What Best Friends Do is another one of my favorites of hers. The scenery in this story with the blooming
orchards, rolling landscapes were beautiful. Taking the ferry to see Bolt Castle sounds like a scenic sight.

I loved how Jason had a crush on Nancy for the entire year. However, he is loner and can’t get up the courage to have a full conversation with her. He wanted to make a move but he was scared to.

This story was incredibly suspenseful, dramatic, and thrilling.
