Review Two Weeks in Winter A Memoir by Mike Maranhas

Author Mike Maranhas

First, I want to thank Mike Maranhas for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Mike Maranhas wrote an incredibly emotionally powerful memoir of his wife’s Bela medical journey after injuring her leg in Two Weeks In Winter A Memoir. It is incredibly brave of Mike to share this heart wrenching story with his readers. I can only imagine the pain of reliving this story as he was writing this. However, writing this could have been therapeutic for him. If this book could help someone then this book is worth him writing it.

Warning: you will NEED a box of tissues! I was totally engaged into the book within the first page. I didn’t want to put the book down. So times you will have compassion for the situations going on you will want to reach into the book to hug and console Mike. Not to mention you will want to pray for Bela.

It is fitting that Mike dedicates this book to his beautiful and incredibly strong wife Bela, and in memory of his father-in-law John Mora.

Immediately I loved Bela! Totally loved how she was the Los Lonely Boys number one fan!! She has seen them 32 times. She calls them her “Boys”.  She had a very strong bond with their fan club. One of my fave parts of the book was when one of the “Boys” called Mike and introduced himself and asked if he could leave a voice message for Bela. Mike knew that would blow her mind. Me being a huge fan of many music stars something like that would make my day. It was a very sweet gesture. Not to mention shows you that band has a heart and cares about their fans.

There are some life events in this book nobody should have to go through ever. When something like this happens surprisingly enough it brings families together. Mike did an incredible job describing emotionally and mentally what he, Bela’s family and his family were going through.
Mike is a true man. He stuck by Bela through thick and thin through and her sickness and health. He fought for her health every step of the way.  I loved that God picked Bela for Mike as they make a great couple.

While reading this book I grew to love how strong Mike’s love for Bela is. This story was more about the medical and her recovery. However, I would have liked to have seen more of the love story. I know there is a great story there to be told.

Even if you are not a familiar with medical terms there is a comprehensive medical glossary in the back of the book. As well in the back of the book he puts in the appendix a laymans view of ards. However, he went in-depth and explained it.

This subject matter is very near and dear to Mike’s heart due to it was about his wife-and he lived it. He poured his heart and soul into this book. When you read it you feel like you are there as a fly on the wall. You don’t know what is going to happen just like Mike didn’t know what was going to happen.

Bela is an incredibly strong woman whom is a fighter and will not give up without a fight. She definitely has a guardian angel looking out for her. There is a song that comes to mind when I think
 of Bela.

It is called Fight Song by Rachel Platton. She has a lot of fight left in her!!

The beautiful Bela and her husband author Mike.
