Who sent it? And why?

The New Girl

Written by Alison Stockham

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Alison Stockham, Boldwood Books, Rachel’s Random Resources and NetGalley.

WOW!!! Readers are always asking me for book recommendations that are unpredictable and give you the wow factor-well I have just the book for you! Yes, Alison Stockham’s The New Girl does just that.

One thing that is different from most psychological thrillers that I have read is that Alison incorporated a religious theme to the storyline. It was done subtlety and not overbearing. I thought it was quite refreshing to see in a book.

Oh what an emotional rollercoaster Alison put me on with this one! Most of the book I had empathy for various situations that were going on. However, there was one deep dark revelation that revealed that I was literally screaming at my Kindle!! I was furious and wanted to jump into the book and give the character a piece of my mind. It was a brilliant twist and Alison went there but WOW!!

This is definitely one book you will want to put on your TBR list as I bet readers will be talking about this book!

They were just a normal family living normal lives. Then Alicia arrived.

After her own mother mysteriously disappears, seventeen-year-old Alicia turns up on her godmother’s doorstep and asks if she can stay. Carina can’t say no to the godchild she hasn’t seen in over a decade.

And in a way, Alicia is the daughter she always wanted – she’s so smart and driven, definitely scholarship material. Carina is only too happy to help this brilliant young woman achieve her full potential.

But husband Don and children Tegan and Arthur aren’t so sure. There’s something about Alicia… Is she just too good to be true?

Then, out of the blue, sixteen-year-old Tegan is accused of a horrible crime and life for this ordinary family spirals down into chaos.

Does Alicia have anything to do with the terrible secrets that are only now being exposed? Has she set out to destroy this family? Before she can answer these questions, Carina will have to face her own troubled past, stepping out of the light and into a very, very dark place…

The Godchild - the shocking psychological thriller from the best-selling author of The Visitors and Make Her Pay.

The Godchild

Written By Miranda RiJks

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank MirandaRijks, Inkubator Books, and Zooloo Book Tours for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

OMG Miranda Rijks’ s storylines keep getting better and better with each book she writes! In Fact, The Godchild is one of her best written and most creative writing pieces to date! The Godchild is unpredictable, intense, and totally shocking!

Miranda jam packed so many powerful storylines with so many messages in The Godchild. It literally felt like I was reading three books into one. Infact, there are a few storylines that could possibly be turned into a sequel!

There were so many aspects to the story that I questioned. Like who would show up unannounced saying they were your long lost Godchild and you have no idea where your Mom is? Carina is way more trusting than I would be welcoming a stranger in the home and letting them stay.

I liked that Miranda jumps back to the past where we get to learn more about Carina and Gina when they were younger. Those two were total opposites in their way of thinking and mannerisms.

Miranda out of nowhere throws us off the path and in come’s Teagan’s storyline. Even though I loved Teagan’s storyline I wondered how it intertwined with Alica’s storyline-if it did.

The Godchild is an addicting, fast paced, intense read that is packed with a lot of good life messages.

After I’m Gone Clare Boyd

A grieving family. A sister’s promise. A secret that will tear them apart…

My husband
Olly and I share a perfect life, our evenings spent curled in our candlelit flat talking about all the places we’ll travel. But my world is shattered with the news that my sister has died in a tragic accident, leaving her two girls, Hayley and Mia, behind. The secret I’ve buried deep in my heart means I was never meant to be a mother – but I made a promise to my sister. I’m all the girls have now.

I give them everything – school on time in clean uniforms, our family’s favourite chocolate-laced chilli bubbling on the stove when they get home – but I never imagined being a mother would be this hard. Hayley and I used to be so close, but now she’s a ball of rage, screaming and lashing out wildly. Olly and I are reaching breaking point.

Then I find a Polaroid picture hidden in one of the girl’s rooms:
Hayley is lying about the night her mother died.

I need to find the truth – before anyone else does. Even if it means digging up the secrets that have held this family together for years. Even if it means revealing my own…

But when I do, will there be anything left of this fragile family to save?

A totally gripping and heart-wrenching story about keeping promises and dark secrets – and the sacrifices we make for the ones we love. Readers of Amanda Prowse, Jojo Moyes and Diane Chamberlain won’t want to miss this stunning page-turner.

After I’m Gone

Written By Clare Boyd

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Clare Boyd, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

You will need tissues for After I’m Gone! Clare Boyd’s latest novel is an emotional one that pulled on my heart strings. After reading this book I just wanted to reach out to my sister, hug her and tell her how much she means to me.

My heart totally broke into so many pieces when Emily and I found out together about the loss of her sister Charlotte! I couldn’t imagine what it would have felt like hearing that tragic news over the phone! I had so many questions like how did she fall in the bathroom. Years ago I too passed out in the bathroom and fractured my neck. However, this was way worse than that.

Not only did I feel for Emily but her daughter’s she was leaving behind! Their life was about to be turned upside down! Who would they live with their Dad David (that was referred to as a sperm donor) or their Aunt Emily (who Charlotte wanted them to live with)?

Needless to say there were so many secrets that were about to come out regarding Charlotte’s death.

Clare educated her readers briefly addressing being Gluten Free and what Gluten does to your body.

She will do anything to stop another young girl dying, but she soon realises that nothing is what it seems—everyone in her hometown is keeping a secret. And when a note is discovered near Natalie’s body addressed to Nikki, it’s clear what the murderer really wants: her…

Ten days ago, straight-A student Jessica Stanley ran away from home. Now her lifeless body lies pale and still in an empty parking lot, her unblinking brown eyes staring up to the night sky…

FBI agent
Nikki Cassidy’s heart pounds as she takes in the short, dark hair and delicate features of fourteen-year-old schoolgirl Jessica Stanley. It’s another unsolved murder in Groveton, Ohio, just like her sister, Caitlin, fifteen years before. Her family beg her to keep her distance, but Nikki knows she can’t walk away.

What if her sister’s killer is back?

Talking to Jessica’s heartbroken family, Nikki learns that she wasn’t happy at home. Just days ago, she packed a few belongings into her school backpack and left, never to be seen alive again.

Determined to give Jessica’s family the answers she never found for herself, Nikki works around the clock, trawling hours of CCTV footage from the scene. And just when she thinks she’s close to uncovering the truth, a chilling email arrives that confirms her deepest fear.
There are more victims, Nikki. Can you ever stop me?

This killer is playing a dangerous game, and he has Nikki in his sights now—one wrong move and she could be his next victim. She’s determined to unmask the monster who has tortured her hometown for decades.
But what if the killer is someone close to her? What if it’s someone she loves?

Fans of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Kendra Elliot will absolutely love this gripping new series from Dana Perry. Prepare to stay up all night!

As dawn breaks over a small gas station on the outskirts of Groveton, Ohio, the body of a teenage girl lies totally still. Long blonde hair covers her face, and a length of frayed rope hangs loosely around her neck. It’s only a matter of time before someone finds her, just like her killer intended…

When FBI agent
Nikki Cassidy receives a call from Groveton’s Chief of Police, her heart pounds. A young girl just knocked on the door of Nikki’s old family home, claiming to be Nikki’s kid sister, Caitlin. But Caitlin was murdered fifteen years ago. Who is the girl and what does she want?

Nikki thinks the impersonator could finally lead her to her sister’s twisted killer. But her hope is shattered when the girl’s lifeless body is found strangled at a local service stop. If the girl knew about Caitlin, could she have known the identity of the killer?
Was she murdered before she could unmask them?

Going against her boss’s orders to stay away, Nikki traces the girl’s last known steps to her best friend,
Shirley. Nikki learns that the girl was last seen meeting with a stranger at the mall. Could it have been her killer?

Closer than ever to uncovering the truth, Nikki can’t give up now. But when Shirley’s body is found at another service station, a length of rope wound around her neck, her heart shatters. Another young life has been lost. Nikki vows that this will be the last.

When an intruder breaks into her old home, Nikki knows it’s the killer sending her a sign. As she walks into the familiar old house in the dead of night, will she finally get justice and catch her sister’s killer, or did she just walk into a deadly trap?

If you enjoy Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Kendra Elliot, you will absolutely love this gripping and totally unputdownable crime thriller.

Macy never expected to find the love of her life in high school—at an 1800s pioneer reenactment camp, no less—but that's precisely where she met Nate. She was private school kid reluctantly attending camp for the first time with her single dad. Nate was from a large, homeschooling family that enjoyed going every year. Their unlikely friendship soon developed into a romantic relationship that had them dreaming of a future together—until Macy unexpectedly called things off in college.

Now twenty-three, Macy is a successful florist with no plans of settling down. When her best friend's wedding festivities mean Nate's return, she's forced to face her past and the feelings she may still have for him. Macy will have to decide if she's willing to risk opening her heart again, or if she will stay on the path she's already chosen where things feel safer.

If you enjoy the wedding backdrop of
Forget Me Not by Julie Soto but prefer the funny and wholesome writing style of Sarah Adams, you’ll love Even When It Wasn’t You. It’s humor, raw emotion, and swoon-worthy moments will keep you reading long into the night!

Kayla has loved to read as long as she can remember. While she started out reading spooky stories that had her hiding under her covers, she now prefers stories with a bit more kissing.

When she gets a chance to watch TV, she enjoys cheesy sci-fi and superhero shows.

Most days, you’ll catch her burning dinner in an attempt to cook while reading just one more chapter.

Kayla lives in the sunshine state with her husband and three boys.

Even When It Wasn’t You
Written By Kayla Tirrell
Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Kayla Tirrell for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Kayla Tirrell has written a very unique creative storyline in Even When It Wasn’t You that is written totally outside of the box! It is fast paced that you can devour into one sitting (as I did). Definitely one to put on your tbr list.

Larissa Padilla Designs created a very pretty cover design for Kayla’s book.

Kayla would like to dedicate this book to her husband who is her forever happily ever after.

One thing I am noticing more and more books I read is that authors are including playlists to their books. Kayla includes her list that goes perfectly with the storyline. My favorite is A Thousand Years By Christina Peri. Now I will have that song in my head the rest of the day!

I totally appreciated Kayla being upfront and center about her trigger warnings in the book. The triggers in this book are heavy topics but important ones and she brings awareness to them in the process. I wish more authors were that upfront with their triggers.

Even When It Wasn’t You is Macy and Nate’s story and journey. How and where they met was unlike any situation I had read about prior. Like Macy I am not a fan of historical events or settings. So I was cracking up right along with her at many of the aspects of this one particular event. Who would have thought she would meet a great guy there.

One of the many aspects I loved about this book was Macy’s close knit bond she had with her father. I loved how she felt so open and free to discuss her love life with him.

Kayla takes us back in time to when we first meet Macy and Nate and get to know more about their backstory. Then she fast forwards the storyline to present day.

I loved the serious, real and raw conversations Macy and Nate had with each other about their possible future they had with each other.

Even When It Wasn’t You put a smile on your face and love back into my heart.
