Play It Back

Ten years. Two hearts. One love story that never forgot how it began.

Ten years ago, Erin Campbell left Texas without saying goodbye to the only boy she'd ever loved.

Ten years later, he's the biggest name in country music... and every song he's ever written is about her.

After losing her mother at eighteen, staying meant facing a life she no longer recognized. So Erin left – her hometown, her grieving father, and Jake Ingram, her best friend, first love, and the future she'd always imagined.

A decade later, Erin has built a successful career as one of New York City's most sought-after photographers, creating the life she always thought she wanted. But no amount of distance – or success – has been enough to silence the memories she left behind.

When her father needs surgery, Erin returns to Texas expecting to stay only long enough to help him recover.

Instead, she comes face to face with Jake.

The boy she left behind is now one of country music's brightest stars, known for writing songs that have captivated millions. Fans have spent years wondering who inspired the heartbreak woven through every album.

Only Erin knows the answer.

As old memories resurface and long-buried truths finally come to light, Erin and Jake must decide whether the love they never stopped carrying is strong enough to overcome the heartache they never healed from – or whether ten years is simply too much time to ask two hearts to begin again.

Play It Back is a heartfelt second-chance romance about first love, grief, forgiveness, and finding your way home.

Because some love stories don't end, they simply wait for you to come home.

My name is Sara Palacios and I write contemporary romance and women’s fiction with emotional depth, layered family dynamics, and characters who are messy, hopeful, and just a little bit stubborn. Outside of writing, I’m usually reading, watching baseball, trying to keep up with my two kids, and pretending I can squeeze one more book into my already mile high TBR pile. I live in Texas with my husband, and our two kids.

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Sara Palacious and Rachel's Random Resources for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

If you know me in real life you know I love all things pop culture, music, all things celebrity, etc. This is my first time reading anything by Sara Palacious but readers you are a fan of music and romance you are going to want to pick up her  latest book Play It Back! When this book came around I thought it might be something different than the normal books I read. I was right (but in a good way). Sara will put a smile on your face and tug a little on those heart strings of yours.

I loved how Sara designed the cover herself! It is so different and unique than any other book cover that I have seen prior. However, It fits the book theme perfectly! The cover and the title Play It Back made me want to know more about the book.

For me personally I got choked up with Sara’s dedication as I totally understood it! “For the ones who believe that home isn’t a place-sometimes it is a person.”

Sara jumped right into her prologue with Jake Ingram’s most revealing interview yet and boy that Timmy Collins was on his game with questions for Jake! Between the interview and the meaning behind the song in question made me want to keep reading the book.

I too am a fan of country music and totally agree that it has a way of grounding you pulling you somewhere quieter and slower. Somewhere you didn’t mean to go.

I enjoyed meeting Jake and Erin in the present and learning about their pasts. Should note Sara has some steamy scenes between these two that are done well.

My heart skipped a beat when Erin got the call from her Father. (Wishing Heaven had phones or FaceTime) and hearing the medical news on the other end of the line. I can understand having a strained relationship with a loved one but I would still want to know what was going on sooner than later. Sooner key word. I am glad he chose to tell when he did.

Erin is so much like me whenever myself or a family member has a medical issue I go straight to Google or Chat GPT. They are my friends or could be my worst enemy!!

One thing that stood out in Play It Back than the rest of the books out there was that Jake being a song writer included his lyrics for us to read. So every few chapters we would get song lyrics. I enjoyed reading them.
