From a social emotional learning expert: a book providing simple, science-based, practical advice including scripts, tips and strategies to help Neurodivergent adults who have ADHD, autism or anxiety find the belonging and support of lifelong friendships they seek.

Friendship can be hard for many Neurodivergent adults. There is an assumption that good, worthwhile friendships “should” come easy. However, for Neurodivergent adults, there are brain-based reasons why friendship can feel less intuitive. From differences in the parts of the brain that are vital to managing the logistics of a fulfilling social life to difficulty with self-regulation, the way neurodiverse individuals experience social bonding and connection can feel unintuitive.

Friendship Skills For Neurodivergent Adults is a guide to navigate these differences, broken into three parts:

1. How friendship works
2. How to find your people
3. How connecting will get you in motion

With the guidance of Friendship Skills For Neurodivergent Adults, readers will feel less alone, and have the tools to understand the unique way neurodiverse individuals can approach friendship

Friendship Skills For Neurodivergent Adults

Written by Caroline MacGuire,PCC,M.ED

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Caroline Macquire, PCC, MED and GA Balance for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Truth time! This arc was given to me a while ago by the publisher. However, as much as I wanted to read and review it this has been sitting on my TBR pile! Why have I been putting it off?! Well because the subject matter hits home personally as it is hard to admit that I am one of the ones in the book that has a hard time meeting friends. Why do you think I hide behind books as much as I do? Or do I have more online friends than offline friends than I do? Yeah because I am one of the ones that is mentioned in the book that has a hard time meeting friends or is socially awkward. I also have many of the other traits that the author talks about as well. No, I have never been diagnosed with being Neurodivergent but through therapy my therapist has suggested that I show signs of it. But as I have mentioned before I pride myself on my reviews being honest, genuine and from the heart. This one you may get more for you have bargained for! So, why did I decide now to read this book? Well..I just turned 50, I recently came out in June, I am trying to find my authentic self and thought this book could shed some light on the me I am trying to become.

Oh I can relate to this so much! Retaining peoples names!!! I am great with faces!! I can see someone from high school from 20 years ago and remember their name but if you say a name without their face and I don’t know them well I won’t have a clue who they are. What Caroline shares is this is common with people with ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism and Learning Disabilities. Even though I hate admitting it, I grew up with one. Funny even though I do book reviews, Reading Comprehension and Math were two big weaknesses for me.

As earlier I said I am trying to find my authentic self by embracing my strengths, my quirks, my interests, my passions, my values, my beliefs, my humor, and my personality. I don’t want to be anyone but me!! I want to be my best self. In the past I have lived how others have thought I should have lived or wanted to and have not been a happy Heidi Lynn!

Caroline gives many of her own personal examples and stories of her experiences growing up. She also gives you the green and red flags of friendship you should look out for as well. She shares a lot of useful information in this book!

Have you ever wish you could just shut your brain off from obsessive and rumination thoughts?! You and I both!! It drives me crazy!!! She gives some great advice on how to quiet those noises in your head.

Oh she talks about over sharing too!! I am an open book! I can talk about everything and everything!! I may share a little too much sometimes! But that is just me! Let’s just say there are people in my life that don’t appreciate that and have told me that to my face.

One thing I have learned that Caroline has hit the nail on the head with is trust is earned and not given!!!

Friendship Skills For The Neurodivergent is a must read for oh so many reasons!! Reading this book I saw so much of myself in so many sections of this book. I wish I didn’t wait so long to read it.

Bette loves Mei, but Bette and Mei are on a break, so Bette can catch-up on the decade of dating experiences she missed before she came out.

So Bette is (reluctantly) on a dating odyssey: a quest to have lots of casual sex with lots of hot women and come back to Mei more experienced and more certain about what she wants. And now she has new friend Ruth as her dating guide, she can't possibly fail. It's just three months, then she'll be back with Mei.

It's the perfect plan … isn't it?

Kate Young is an award-winning food writer, cook, and author. Originally from Australia, she grew up a dedicated bookworm and later moved to the UK. She gained widespread acclaim for creating recipes inspired by famous literature, winning Blogger of the Year in 2017. Experienced

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

This summer I made a bold move and came out! In doing so I wanted to read more Sapphic Novels and books that had more Lesbian characters. Someone highly suggested Experienced by Kate Young as one of the many that I read (yes, now I have a new TBR list). Instantly I absolutely fell in love with it and devoured it in one sitting!! It was so elegantly brilliantly written and more tastefully done than any straight romance books. Kate will open your eyes and heart that there is someone out there for everyone, she will make you smile, sometimes laugh out loud, maybe shed a tear here and there.

As I stated earlier I was immediately drawn to this storyline within the first page!! Already I was fuming at the one character Mei who wanted to give Betta space! My first thought was this a Ross and Rachel storyline from Friends just with a queer couple! I totally felt bad for Bette who was totally blind sighted by this!!

I was totally cracking up laughing when her friends signed her up for all the dating sites!! I know first hand how horrid they can be having been on them in the past. What I liked is that Kate included the chats between Bette and her dates.

Throughout this book Bette learned a lot not only about herself but what she wanted in a partner. I now understand why it was highly suggested and would love to read more of her books.

Could she be my husband’s secret daughter?

Rose’s birthday party was everything I could have dreamed of; she adored her unicorn cake and balloons, and the surprise of her whole class arriving to celebrate. And now all the parents and children have left, I can finally relax – and find out exactly why my husband, Phil, disappeared halfway through. But who is the little girl still perched at our dining room table?

My daughter says she doesn’t know her.

The child’s eyes fix on the family photo in front of her. Her fingers reach out to caress Phil’s dark hair beside mine and Rose’s golden locks.

And then I realise. She looks just like him.

Years ago, my husband made a terrible mistake. And when I finally face up to the secrets he’s hidden, will it tear our family apart?

A breathtaking, twisty and emotional page-turner perfect for fans of Linda Green, Liane Moriarty and Amanda Prowse.

Sam Vickery is an English author who loves gritty, emotional stories that can make you sob. First, I want to thank Sam Vickery, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Oh how I am such a huge fan of Sam Vickery’s books!! Each one of them touches me in a way and pulls on my heart strings. When I heard she had just written The Child at the Party I knew I had to be on her blog tour for it! I’m so glad I did because it was so good!

The Bookouture Graphic Artists continue to impress me with their creative covers! This one was beautiful for The Child at the Party.

The introduction to the character of Billie was one of my favorite storyline. It was one of those outside of the box kind of storylines.

I was not expecting any spicy scenes from this book so of course that forbidden love scene happening threw me off guard.

Overall it is a great read and should be put on your tbr list!

Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of those books that instantly pulls hard on your heart strings. This is literally a book I started on a Saturday afternoon and literally lost track of time and finished in one sitting. Forever, Interrupted was an engaging and addicting story that must be put on your TBR list.

Oh the tears that started to well up as I felt like a fly in the air watching a tragic scene unfold. My heart ached for newlywed Elise who had just lost her Ben! Knowing the pain of losing someone I could totally feel her pain.

With Forever, Interrupted Taylor takes us back in time to when Ben and Elise met, their proposal, and their actual wedding day. We were able to get to know Ben through stories.

Taylor Jenkins Reid deals with loss of a spouse, grief, dealing with their family, handling arrangements, and cope with the loss. All not easy things to deal with. However, she does a beautiful writing this story.

I loved that Elise was a librarian and met a lot of nice people there with interesting stories to share. One of the many friends that she had there was Mr. George Callahan. I enjoyed reading about him.

Forever, Interrupted would be a great book for a book club pick as in the back they have book discussion topics.
