heart-wrenching drama… an emotional rollercoaster with twists along the way… I read this in four hours and I know you’ll be hooked too.’ NetGalley Reviewer,

All I wanted was to bring our family closer together, but could what I find tear us apart instead?

A heartbreaking and powerful novel about family secrets and how we live with decisions we never thought we would have to make. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Kate Hewitt and Amanda Prowse.

Ali

Ali is fascinated by families, their myths and secrets, and the forces that hold them together, split them up and (sometimes) bring them back together again. She always travels with tissues and a book and has been known to cry over a good story but is also a big fan of the hopeful ending.

 My Mother’s Choice

By

Ali Mercer

Review by

Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Ali Mercer, Bookature and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may provide you with this review.

Ali Mercer has once again written another heart wrenching must read in her latest novel My Mother’s Choice. She will pull on all of your heart strings in every different direction. She has a gift for doing this in many of her books. Which is one of the reasons why I am such a fan of hers.

Immediately, I was drawn to this cover as it was so sweet. Later when reading the book did I understand the meaning of the cover and the title. The graphic artist was spot on with their idea behind this.

What made this book different than many I have read in the past was it was told in the voice of the 14 year old daughter Dani. It also had the voice of her mother Laura via her Diary from the past. Both aspects gave the story a very unique spin on it.

My heart ached deeply for Dani as there was always a mystery surrounding her Mother. Both her Dad and her Aunt Carrie were so cold and standoffish and always avoided the subject. I did not care for them as they didn’t show much emotion towards her.

There were so many secrets, terrible betrayals, lots of twists and turns, and shocking moments.

This was one book I never saw the ending coming at all and was totally shocked by it. However, the title totally fit when you thought about it. It was the Mother’s Choice. It just ripped my heart out! Yes, I admit I did tear up! Ali is good like that!

#BookonTour The Silent Dolls by Rita Herron #Bookouture #NetGalley

Silent tears trickle down her cheeks as she curls inside the tiny cave-like space. She lies on her side, darkness all around her, rubbing her fingers over the little wooden doll he’d carved. He told her to be quiet, not to cry or scream. Not to be a baby. Her throat was raw, her eyes swollen shut. She wanted her mommy and daddy. She wanted to go home.

They’d left their daughter with us, their only child, and we hadn’t protected her. That was all they would see when they looked at us—that we had failed them.

I count down the days until we can leave the city behind and return to the beach house. Where James and Katie can roam free over the dunes, like they did as children, and Peter will swap his 6 a.m. starts for the stacks of fluffy pancakes he lovingly serves up for our family breakfasts. These sun-drenched, golden days, just the four of us, are what I hold on to all year long.

But this summer Katie’s best friend will be coming with us. I tell myself the girls will have fun together, pushing aside the doubts I have about this uninvited guest. Isa. With her corn-silk hair and luminous skin, who manages to overshadow my daughter at every turn. Who has been dumped on us by her own parents, too caught up in their petty dramas to see what is right in front of them.

Because she has no idea who I am. She has no clue that I know everything.

know her secret. I know that she did the unforgivable. I know how many lives she ruined.

know exactly what she did. And I’m here for her.
