Michelle Harris spent twelve years teaching Secondary School English and Drama, before making the sensible decision to give it all up to write about unicorn poo on the internet, working as a social media manager for an online toy shop. She is now a freelance social media manager with a sideline in writing bespoke poetry, (she is a poet and she knows it). She lives in Greater London with her husband, two children, and a dog that thinks he’s a human. *
Joe Burkett lives in the idyllic west coast of Ireland with his husband. He is a doting uncle to his six nephews and nieces and enjoys spending time with his family. Any excuse for a party is Joe’s motto. When he’s not party planning, Joe loves nothing more than joining his friends for a gin, taking selfies of himself while out walking and cooking the perfect Sunday roast. “August in December” is Joe’s debut short story as part of the Christmas Collective Anthology. He was shortlisted for the Penguin Michael Joseph Christmas Love Story competition in 2021. Joe is the Creative Director of the “Joe Burkett Theatre Company”. His childhood hobby formed the basis of his career and he adores training the next generation in all things theatre. With ambitions to continue his writing career and potentially collaborating with a fellow writer on a book series, Joe’s dream is to turn his love of telling stories into the next stage of his career. Cici Maxwell is the chosen pen name for Amy Gaffney, and is taken from her two cats, Cici, a rather spoilt dame, and Max, who was a fluffy white bundle madness until he went missing. He’s hugely missed, especially his antics from the middle of the Christmas tree. Amy hails from Kildare and is a graduate of UCD’s Creative Writing MA where she was Co-Editor in Chief of The HCE Review 2017-2018. A lover of all things Christmas, Amy was thrilled to discover she was shortlisted for the Penguin Michael Joseph Christmas Love Story competition in May 2021. She was also shortlisted for the Dalkey Creates Short Story Competition in 2020. Her poetry has been published in Poetry Ireland Review Issue 125, Irish Times Hennessy New Irish Writing, Ropes Unearthed 2019, Limerick Poetry Month, and in Skylight 47. In 2019 Amy’s prose has been published online in The HCE Review, online at Public House Magazine, and The Honest Ulsterman. Amy’s short story “Mother May I” was shortlisted for the An Post Book of the Year Award 2019 in the writing.ie Short Story of the Year category. First, I want to thank The Christmas Collective and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.
It is beginning to feel a lot like Christmas even though it is not Thanksgiving yet! As long as we don’t jinx the snow, bring on the Christmas books, movies and music! Never too early to get into the holiday spirit! More Than Just A Mistletoe will definitely get you into the spirit this year.
Sarah Shard did a fantastic job of designing a festive cover for More Than A Mistletoe! It was pretty.
More Than A Mistletoe is a compilation of 12 stories that will put a smile on your face, allow you to feel love in your heart, make you giggle, and most of all make you believe in the Christmas spirit.
Each of the 12 authors are extremely talented storytellers. Each story has something for each reader. Infact, if you liked their story they give you an insight of where to find more of the story or continuation in their next book.
Some of my favorite stories were Sealed With A Kiss by Blaithin O’Rielly, The Last Christmas by S.L. Robinson, and Christmas for Two by Marianne Calver. Each of these stories touched my heart in one way or another.
