Christy Wopat’s debut novel, a memoir, titled “Almost a Mother: Love, Loss, and Finding Your People When Your Baby Dies” was published in March of 2018 by Orange Hat Publishing out of Waukesha. A 4th-grade teacher by day, as well as a busy mama and wife, Christy has always relied on writing as a way to cope. Recently she decided to use that strength as a way to help others, so they don’t have to feel alone.

Christy is a regular member of the Friending podcast team, a contributing writer to Still Standing, an online magazine about infant loss and grief, and a blogger at Um, You Guys? a parenting/adulting blog where she tries to infuse humor into everyday life.

Christy resides in Holmen with her her husband, Brian, and her two kids, Avery and Evan. Her first born twins, Sophie and Aiden, died in 2009 after being born prematurely.

Review by Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Christy Wopat for providing me this book so I may bring you this review.

Christy Wopat wrote a beautiful children’s book that is close to her heart in Always Ours. Christy wanted to write a book that was geared towards children who lost a sibling at birth. The message and the story touched me that I started tearing up.

Christy wants to dedicate this book to Aiden & Sophie, who made me a mother, and to Avery & Evan, who help me remember they are always ours.

The illustrations in this book by Julie Wells really captured the love and support of this family. She is incredibly talented and detailed in her drawings.

Julie would like to dedicate this book to George, Therese, and Mary Noelle: our family’s little angels.

I am a huge fan of butterflies and the meaning behind them for many personal reasons. I never thought of the butterflies in the way the daughters explained them to their parents. It is a truly beautiful moment shared with the family.

This is such a touching story. I love when people are willing to share such intimate parts of their life to help others.
