Your fiancé calls. ‘A little girl needs help.’ Then they both disappear…

Melody gazes across the rippling lake to the trees on the shore, waiting for her fiancé Evan to arrive so their family holiday can begin. Here in this cabin in a small Canadian island town, there’s so much space for their son to play. It’s going to be perfect – just like the first time Melody visited as a child. But then a call from Evan shatters her world.

‘There’s someone in the road. I think it’s a little girl. She’s covered in mud. Or… is it blood?’ His voice becomes distant. ‘Are you OK? What’s your name?’ Then there’s a thud.

Evan never arrives to the holiday cabin. Melody, and her son, are terrified and desperate for answers. But with miles of endless, empty forest, and no reports of a missing girl,
what hope is there of finding Evan?

The more questions Melody asks of the locals, the more she fears a terrible secret hides just out of sight.
And the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she is in…

A totally gripping thriller that will have you racing through the pages until the final shocking twist. Perfect for fans of T.M. Logan and Rachel Abbott.

Kerry Wilkinson is from the English county of Somerset but has spent far too long living in the north. It’s there that he’s picked up possibly made-up regional words like ‘barm’ and ‘ginnel’. He pretends to know what they mean.

He’s also been busy since turning thirty: his Jessica Daniel crime series has sold more than a million copies in the UK; he has written a fantasy-adventure trilogy for young adults; a second crime series featuring private investigator Andrew Hunter and thestandalone thriller, Down Among The Dead Men.

The Call

The Call

Written By Kerry Wilkinson

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Kerry Wilkinson, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

WOW!! The Call is Kerry Wilkinson’s best written psychological thriller to date!! It is fast paced, addicting, you will be glued to your kindle, it is thrilling, suspenseful, with deep dark secrets and explosive revelations.

Kudos to the graphic designers who created this cool looking cover! It was so colorful and drew my curiosity to what the book was about.

Having spent many years traveling back and forth to Toronto for medical reasons I grew a soft spot for the area. So, when Kerry placed his storyline in Canada I just had to smile. I loved Melody compared the differences from living in England to her surroundings in Canada. Having never been to England I liked this aspect of the book.

I kept laughing every time people asked if they had camps in England. Why did Melody’s son have to travel all the way to Canada to go to camp? Funny is my niece who lives in San Fran and the other one from Pittsburgh comes to Buffalo to attend a Girl Scout Camp at 7 Hills.

My heart went out to Melody who’s fiancé went missing out of the blue on his way to see her! This investigation was so different from any of the other ones you read about. There were so many wicked twists, turns, deep dark secrets, scammers, and shocking revelations that will blow your mind.

One life lesson I got from this book is that things may not seem exactly as they appear.

This book deserves more than 5 stars!! You need to put this on your TBR list.

 Don’t Let Her In

The letters drop onto every doormat…

Lena just moved to Mandalay Close. She needed a new start, since her boyfriend cheated her out of the home and happy-ever-after she’d believed they were always going to share.

But on the day Lena moves in, letters begin to arrive for all her new neighbours. Letters that promise to expose everyone’s deepest, darkest secrets. Every house has received one - except for Lena’s.

Someone clearly wants to implicate her, to ruin her new life and turn everyone against her. She’s made an enemy, but who, and why? Everyone seems so nice, so trustworthy. So normal.

Except for one. And as bad things begin to happen and her life rapidly spins out of control, Lena finds herself cursing the day she moved to Mandalay Close. She can’t believe this is happening to her, because she’s not a bad person, is she? Even though she does have secrets of her own, secrets that she’s not willing to share with anyone…

A completely jaw-dropping psychological thriller, perfect for fans of K.L. Slater, Lisa Jewell and Sue Watson.

Don’t Let Her In
Written By Joanne Ryan
Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Joanne Ryan,  BoldwoodBooks, Rachel’s Random Resource and NetGalley for providing me with this book.

I absolutely fell in love with Joanne Ryan’s last book I read so I thought I would read this one. While she is a good writer this was not one of my favorites. However, just because I didn’t care for it didn’t mean others wouldn’t.

I totally related to Lena how we both are too nice for our own good! I can totally relate to people taking advantage of my niceness at times. Like Lena I am not perfect by any means and yes can be too trusting at times.

Let’s talk about Gareth shall we? He was not my favorite person in the book. She dates him for 11 years and then he goes and cheats on her. However, he still calls her on a daily basis! An ex is an ex for a reason. How is Lena moving on with him still lingering around? There was way too much focus on Gareth (side note I loved the name).

The new couple next door was creepy!!! Seriously, why would a Father name their kid Jolyon? I don’t blame the kid for hating his name and felt bad that the kids at school picked on him for it. The Mom was loving and caring to Jolyon but when the Father was around she had to be standoffish. The Father totally rubbed me the wrong way.

There was a mystery behind some creepy letters that came to the house. Who sent them and why? This to me was the interesting part of the story.

Her body was found close to the university. She was on her way home after a night out. Just like in the story I wrote…

Every Monday, I meet my writing group in a warm, lively bar to drink a glass of wine or two. It’s thehighlight of my week. But now something terrible is happening.

At first, it didn’t seem like a big deal. My tires were slashed. A woman was hit by a car outside my apartment. Then, yesterday, someone was murdered. And all the details are copied from the stories we shared.

Am I going mad, or is someone in my group a killer?

I thought they were the only people I could trust, since what happened ten years ago. But now I’m terrified one of them knows the truth that lies buried in all my work—the secret I’ve tried so hard to hide. And they want to make me pay for it.

I have to know who’s bringing my stories to life… but will the answer cost me everything?

A completely unputdownable psychological thriller that will have you glued to the pages! If you like Lisa Jewell, Ruth Ware and The Wife Between Us, then you’ll love The Writer.

The Writer

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Miranda Smith, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

WOW!! They always say write what you know and are passionate about! That is just what Miranda Smith did with her latest The Writer! If you are a reader, aspiring author or love psychological thriller books you will absolutely adore this book like I did. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could!

Can we just say how beautiful Miranda’s cover for The Writer is? This was so spot on to the storyline! One of her best covers yet. Great job goes to the graphic designers who created this cover!

I absolutely loved all the dreams, ambitions and goals that Becca had for herself. She knew what she wanted and she wouldn’t give up til she got it. This is a great life lesson for anyone.

I have been a fan of Miranda’s for a while now. All of her books are great and worth checking out. However, I was more drawn to this one because The Writer is more relatable. Yes, I am not a writer nor do I wish to publish a book but I could understand where Becca was coming from.

Becca’s Mother was NOT my favorite character! She totally upset me by not supporting her daughter in what she loved doing most-writing. She was a very good writer and her Mom just could not see that!

The Writer had a very interesting mystery to solve! There were so many secrets, twists, turns, and my favorite explosive shocker at the end!

Miranda’s The Writer is a very creatively written book that is totally outside the box. It is one you must put on your TBR list.

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Science raises questions only love can answer in this moving and thought-provoking novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of “heart-tugging and emotional” (Romantic Times Book Reviews) life-changing fiction.

One frozen embryo. Two families with life-long secrets. And a guy who never planned to fall in love again.

Maddie Baxter West is shaken to the core when she finds out everything she believed about her life was a lie. Her parents had always planned to tell her the truth about her past: that she was adopted as an embryo. But somehow the right moment never happened. Then a total stranger confronts Maddie with the truth and tells her something else that rocks her world—Maddie had a sister she never knew about. Betrayed, angry, and confused, Maddie leaves her new job and fiancé, rejects her family’s requests for forgiveness, and moves to Portland to find out who she really is.

Dawson Gage’s life was destroyed when London Quinn, his best friend and the only girl he ever loved, is killed. In the hospital waiting room, London’s mother reveals that London might have had a sibling. The frozen embryo she and her husband donated decades ago. When Dawson finds Maddie and brings her to Portland, the Quinns—her biological parents—welcome her into their lives and hearts. Maddie is comforted by the Quinns’ love and intrigued by their memories of London, who was so much like her. Is this the family and the life she was really meant to have?

Now it will take the love of Dawson Gage to help Maddie know who she is...and to help her find her way home.

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank the Buffalo Erie County Library for providing me with this book so I may give you this review.

WOW!!!  OMG after my binge watching obsession with Karen Kingsbury’s The Baxter’s on Prime I knew I needed to read her books! After seeing a preview of Someone Like You during The Baxters I rushed out to the library to get the book (and a few others of hers). Now I really need to see this movie!! The book was so good!!

Let’s talk about the beautiful and meaningful cover of Someone Like You. It was so perfect!

Now, if you are like me and saw The Baxter’s on Prime you will recognize some of the characters in the book. When reading their names I could picture the actors/actresses that played in the series. Plus, I got updated on some characters too which was nice.

If you are not familiar with Karen’s books they are all sweet faith based.

Now warning you are going to want to stock up on tissues for this book! This was a very emotional read for me! Yes, I admit I cried like a baby!

I absolutely loved how deeply passionate Maddie was about her love for animals and her career endeavors around this! You could not help not smile ear to ear on how animated she was! Needless to say I was incredibly happy for her!

My Niece is named London so I had a soft spot for this character. That be said my heart leapt out of my chest and I totally gasped at the tragic accident!! Never could you imagine that happening.

The twist in this story is very unique and unlike any other that I have read! There were a lot of secrets that had been kept and shocking revelations as well.

Karen writes about some very important topics and life lessons in Someone Like You. Infact, she has some discussion questions in the back of the book that would be great for the book club.

What an honor for Karen’s true fan’s to be listed in the back of her book. They truly are the lucky ones!

Karen Kingsbury’s Someone Like You deserves more than 5 stars!! Now I must read more of her books and definitely see this movie!!
