When four-year-old Mia Edwards goes missing on a play date, everyone suspects Jessica Green knows what happened, especially Mia's mother, Holly...

But Jess won't tell anyone.

Psychiatrist, Dr. Oscar de la Nuit, is perceptive and determined to save Jess from the same regret and secrets he lives with.

Oscar thinks he has Jess figured out, but will she lead to Oscar's redemption, or will she be his downfall?

MQ Webb has always believed in the transformational nature of words, and a medium to utilize them. How to Spot a Psychopath is the first book in the Oscar de la Nuit Psychological Thriller series.

Born without a Middle name, Q is such an undervalued letter of the alphabet, only appearing with u, so thought they would give it some respect by acknowledging it in their name.

A fascination with human behavior and motivation led them to study psychology. They once worked in a building that was converted from a gaol and is a marketing consultant for NFP’s, universities, and the public sector.

The Authors

Peter Valdez and Tasche Laine, co-authors

Peter Valdez III and his wife, Tasche Laine (a multi-genre author), collaborated on their first children’s book, Get Up, Lil Peter. Get Up!, to pay tribute to Peter’s grandfather. The oldest of 29 grandchildren, Peter was nicknamed ‘Lil Peter’ to differentiate him from his father and grandfather. Each story in the series is told with a message or lesson that impacted Peter’s life as a child, and grounded him as an adult.

Peter was born and raised in and around the Los Angeles area, in California. He currently resides in the Pacific Northwest with Tasche and their dogs, Cody and Story. He still enjoys playing soccer every chance he gets.

The Illustrator

Mei Mei Leonard

Mei Mei Leonard is an Oregonian illustrator and animator. She graduated from PNCA (Pacific Northwest College of Art) in 2020 with a BFA in animation.

Although her work is primarily digital now, she has a great fondness for traditional pencils and inks. She enjoys fairytales, and general childhood whimsy in the things she draws, but is not one to shy away from serious topics.

When working, Mei Mei favors character design and fleshing out a character’s personality—whether from their clothes, their expressions, or their movement. Her dream is to one day publish her own series of graphic novels (Internet, hard copy, or both)! She is new to the picture book scene, and revels in exploring the new opportunities and challenges.

Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Peter Valdez, Tasche Laine, Mei Mei Lenord and Skye Blue Press for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

Writing duo Peter Valdez and Tasche Laine are back with another installment of their adorable series Lil Peter! With the help of the amazing illustrations you can't help but smile ear to ear reading Small Things Lil Peter Makes A Big Difference. It is the sweetest book within their series that dog owners/lovers will appreciate!

Tasche would like to dedicate this book to her sister Bridget who volunteers with the Northwest German Shepherd Rescue. Also, she would like to dedicate this book to her good friend Jas List who runs the OC Pom Rescue.

Out of all the books that Tasche and Peter have done in the Lil Peter series I would have to say this one is my favorite. What kid doesn’t like dogs right?! You could tell that Tasche and Peter did their research as this book was very educational. They were teaching the kids some very valuable lessons.

Mei Mei had me cracking up laughing at some of her scenes with Lil Peter and the dogs! She showed us just how hard it is to actually take care of a dog. I was very impressed how life like the dogs actually looked. I have said it before and I will say it again she has talent!

I loved how at the end of the book there are some reference materials on fostering and reducing dogs. There are also some fun activities that the kids can participate in.

It was supposed to be the happiest day of Jaslene Simmons’ life, the day she’d say “I do” to Marcus Clark. But when her sister dies in a tragic accident everything changes—including her once rosy future with Marcus. Jaslene instead pours all of her energy into caring for her now-motherless niece and running the wedding planning company she and her sister had built, wanting to honor her sister’s dream even if she has to sacrifice her own.

As an archivist at Charleston’s Black history museum, Marcus shines a light on the stories of forgotten people. Researching history is better than dealing with his own heartache—and the guilt he has over the role he may have inadvertently played in the death of Jaslene’s sister.

Your little girl is all yours… isn’t she?

Dani and her husband Tate’s life together is almost perfect. But Dani is haunted by guilt for causing a terrible car accident that left her unable to have children. She can’t remember why she was driving so fast that day or where she was going. Her therapist says she should try to move on.

So when their application to adopt is accepted, Dani sobs with joy. As perfect little
Willow nestles in her arms, Dani looks at Tate’s loving smile and knows he will always provide for his family, no matter what.

When Dani sees a woman staring as she pushes Willow’s stroller around the safe, gated Florida community where they live, she tells herself it’s simply an admiring passer-by. After all, Dani herself used to watch the local moms and wish she was in their shoes.

But when Dani wakes in the night to find Willow’s crib empty,
their perfect life becomes a nightmare.
