SYNOPSIS:
It's August 1999 and the world will end in less than four months.
At least, that's what high school sophomore Derrick Townsend hears on the television as the coming Y2K apocalypse grows nearer every day. On top of that, he's now the new kid in town, having moved to Mount Vernon a week before school starts for the next semester. Music-obsessed, he creates mixtapes of his favorite songs to help him cope with—and escape—this new, unfamiliar world.
As Derrick navigates music, love and the end of the world, he and newfound friend AJ start a band in order to compete in the school's talent show. Derrick, however, also wants to impress the beautiful girl next door.
With Y2K approaching, the teenagers, contemplating the future and what it may hold, they also cope with changing family dynamics and the drama of small-town life.

First, I want to thank Andrew J. Brandt for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
Calling all music fans you are going to just love Andrew J. Brandt’s latest novel Mixtape for the End of the World!! Andrew transports his readers back in time when the biggest thing the world was facing was Y2K! Ohh how easy life was back then and how great some of the music was too.
Great job creating such a fun cover for Andrew’s book! It is spot on with the actual mixtape and amazing firework display.
This book is dedicated to everyone who has supported every crazy dream Andrew has ever had. This book is also dedicated to Jennifer-life with her in it is better than any dream.
One of the aspects of this book that I loved the most was how close to an autobiographical book Andrew has written. Knowing this you could tell how passionate this story was to him by his written word. It meant more knowing it was coming from his heart.
Each chapter was titled a different band and song. Some extremely great bands that I enjoyed listening to growing up.
Two of the characters are what is termed Irish Twins meaning they were born 11 months apart. Ironically my sister Wendy and I are also Irish Twins. I am the older one but she likes to think she is older.
Being born and raised in Buffalo, NY I was so happy to see Buffalo’s Hometown Band Goo Goo Dolls mentioned. They are a fantastic group to see live and put on a killer show!
I was cracking up laughing hysterically as one of the characters in the book thought Taylor Hanson was a girl from the group Hanson. I was a fan of theirs back in the day and can see how this character would think that. Oh how those scenes were just laugh out funny!!
The concept of the mixtape in this book was pure genius. It took me back to when I would stay by the radio to get my fave song and tape it. Oh how many hours were spent just waiting to get the full song.
Andrew’s book is going to make you smile and remember your childhood.
