 His Mother’s Lies

I married her son, but he couldn’t see her evil…

Charlotte’s dream wedding to Ethan was the happiest day of her life. She knew his mother, Anna, loved her only son, but her overbearing nature starts driving Charlotte insane. Ethan always claimed his mother accepted her as part of the family, but her gut instincts couldn’t be wrong.

To help the happy couple save for their first house together, Anna presents an offer they can't refuse with a rent-free room in the family home. This is when Charlotte suspects Anna wants her boy back for good. Convinced she is out to destroy their marriage; Charlotte has a surprise that was about to bring them closer together or rip their relationship apart.

As tensions mount and Anna digs her claws in, Charlotte discovers a hidden family secret, but Anna’s manipulative nature ensures no one would believe her. Charlotte must survive a wave of cruelties and play the most vindictive mother-in-law she’s ever encountered at her own sinister game if her marriage is to survive a mother who can’t let go of the past.

Anna will stop at nothing to get what she wants…

Extract from His Mother’s Lies by JA Andrews

I sit with my mobile phone in my hand, wondering if my son will make an effort to call me today. I stare at the screen and hover my finger over his name in my contact list. I should give him a piece of my mind for leaving me sitting here to rot, but when I think of him my heart melts and I get goosebumps. He’s the only reminder of Robert I have left.

My husband's death brought my son and me closer together until she came along. Charlotte this, or Charlotte that; I knew it was getting serious when he couldn’t stop talking about this woman. Her name seemed to be mentioned over breakfast more often than any other woman he’d met. I had a gut instinct that this one was going to stick around.

‘Never forget who your family are,’ I reminded Ethan. ‘My boy, you can have countless girlfriends or wives, but you’ll only ever have the one mother. I’m the woman who will always be here for you, no matter what.’

He always hugged me and told me he loved me. He doesn’t seem to do that anymore, but I must learn to live with that now. I know he will need me again one day soon, and I’ll be here, waiting.

I don’t think they’ll last the distance. He’s never been a man who could stay committed, not even as a child. If the thought of something was forever, he’d want to be rid of it and start something new. I know how his brain works. I know my boy.

This is my life, sitting here on the sofa after a hard shift in the hospice with my cup of tea starting to go cold. I turn the television off and there’s nothing but silence. My head clouded with my nagging thoughts about the welfare of my son. Is he really that happy? Can she really be that good for him? What is it about her that he likes, and why? They’re a bit chalk and cheese, but I’ll try and keep an open mind.

I don’t have any friends to visit or any interesting hobbies except for reading the latest crime novel that my local bookshop promotes. I seem to work, eat, sleep and spend hours hoping my son remembers who his mother is. All the memories I have of him as a child, those times he was on the swings, when I kissed his cuts better, when I did all his washing, paid for his nights out – it wasn’t to be forgotten about. I didn’t ever want him to leave me here on a sofa with minimal contact.

‘We’re going out to Charlotte’s parent's house for a barbeque tonight, so I have to cancel and will visit you at the weekend,’ he once said, but that weekend never happened. ‘Charlotte’s mother has invited us. I can’t say no. She’d never forgive us.’

It’s ok for him to say no to me. It seems fine to disappoint me, but I don’t hear about her mother getting left out in the cold. I don’t think I’m being unreasonable; however, I’m starting to get angry. When I’m mad, it gets me thinking about things. I don’t like having those feelings stirring up inside me. It doesn’t do anyone any good.

I’ve done good for others all my life and never had any thanks in return. It’s not like I even want them, but some acknowledgement wouldn’t go a miss. The first woman to come along and show him any attention and he’s off like a shot. I thought I brought him up better than that. I taught him to respect his family.

He’s my son. Mine.

First, I want to thank JA Andrews and Rachel’s Random Resources for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

DANG!!!! I wouldn’t wish this Mother In Law on even my worst enemy!!! She is pure EVIL!!! JA Andrews is back and better than ever with his 6th psychological thriller His Mother’s Lies!! I have been a HUGE fan of his since his first book Mummy Boy and I can firmly say this is his best work to date!!! This is a definite must read, go out and buy, and put it to the top of your TBR list as it is a 5 star read!

In my career of book reviewing I don’t think a character has pissed me off as much as Anna did! She is truly a sick, twisted, mentally ill woman with major issues!! The way she treated Charlotte was so wrong on so many levels! How Ethan couldn’t see how deranged she truly was is beyond me!

There were many in-depth, intense, tensionful and suspenseful scenes that had me literally biting my already short nails! His Mother’s Lies were jam packed with unthinkable acts, secrets, lies and omg the revelations at the climax of the book were unimaginable!!!

JA Andrews deals with some heavy topics that I will be honest was hard to read on a Mother’s Day Weekend as it will pull hard on your heartstrings!

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate JA Andrews and his partner Gary Mullen for getting married! I’m incredibly happy for the two of you-and pray your Mom In Law’s are NOTHING like Anna!

O.M.G. Jackie Kabler has me questioning whether to send my niece and nephew on a school field trip! The Vanishing Class of 3B is every parent and teacher’s worst nightmare become reality! You will be wanting to hug your little ones a little tighter after this read! This is a scenario that surely could play out in the headlines! I don’t know where she got her inspiration but dang this was such an addictive read!! This is a book that every parent and teacher will be talking about long after they have finished the book!

The Vanishing Class of 3B deserves way more than 5 stars in my opinion! The storyline was fresh, It was totally addicting where I was literally glued to my Kindle, my heart strings were pulled hard as my heart ached for the parents, it had so many twists and turns, oh and the secrets that were revealed were unbelievably shocking! I just loved it so much and could not get enough!

I loved how Jackie pulled out every emotion possible within her characters. You couldn’t help but feel empathetic to the characters in their worry, panic, and anxiety over where their children were. Heck, I would be the same way if not worse!

What I found interesting were some of the parents were famous in the entertainment industry! Each of them having a very interesting backstory!

Jackie totally shocked me with the secrets, revelations and jaw dropping climatic ending!! This is one ending I never ever in a million years saw coming! Jackie is good!

The Vanishing Class of 3B is a book that I would love to be turned into a series on Netflix! I would totally be binge watching it if that ever became reality!

From the USA Today bestselling author of The Summer House, with over one million copies of her books sold, comes a heartwarming beach read, perfect for fans of Sheila Roberts, Jill Shalvis, and Debbie Macomber.

After the loss of her fiancĂ© a year ago, event planner
Lauren Sutton can’t seem to go on with her choice of career or the life she’d built with her fiancĂ© any longer. Floundering emotionally, she makes a snap decision to sell her half of the business and spend the summer among the sand dunes and changing tides of the Outer Banks, taking care of an old inn in Rodanthe, North Carolina with its elderly owner Mary Everett.

Perhaps the salty breezes of the Atlantic and the warmth of summer sun on her face will help her find her direction. What she doesn’t expect to find is a story hidden away in a string of sea glass that will change her life forever.

And complicating things is local fisherman
Brody Harrison. All she’d wanted was to sink her toes in the sand and let the coastal breeze calm her aching heart. But Brody shakes up her plan in ways she’d never imagined.

An uplifting summer escape that will strengthen your family bonds and have you believing in the incredible power of love. If you enjoyed the TV movies based on Jenny’s books and are looking for more feel-good, small-town romance, look no further!

Jenny Hale is a USA Today and international bestselling author of romantic contemporary fiction. Her books have sold over a million copies worldwide, have been translated into multiple languages, and adapted for television. Her novels Coming Home for Christmas and Movie Guide Epiphany Award winner Christmas Wishes and Mistletoe Kisses are Hallmark Channel original movies. She was included in Oprah Magazine’s “19 Dreamy Summer Romances to Whisk You Away” and both Southern Living’s “30 Christmas Novels to Start Reading Now” as well as “Beach Reads Perfect for Summer” in 2020 as well as 2023. Her stories are chock-full of feel-good romance and overflowing with warm settings, great friends, and family. Jenny is at work on her next novel, delighted to be bringing even more heartwarming stories to her readers. When she isn’t writing or heading up her romantic fiction imprint Harpeth Road, she can be found running around her hometown of Nashville with her husband, two boys, and their labradoodle, taking pictures—her favorite pastime.

When I graduated college, one of my friends said, "Look out for this one; she's going to be an author one day." Despite being an avid reader and a natural storyteller, it wasn't until that very moment that the idea of writing novels occurred to me.

Sometimes our friends can see the things that we can't.

While I didn't start straight away, that comment sowed a seed and several years, two children, and hundreds of thousands of words later, I completed a novel that I felt was worthy of publication. The result was Coming Home for Christmas, a heart-warming story about friends, family, and the magic of love at Christmas.

The rest is history.

When I'm not writing, I'm publishing through my imprint Harpeth Road Press. I’m also a mother of two boys and a wife to a very supportive husband.

Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Jenny Hale and Harpeth Road Press for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

WOW!! Jenny Hale yet again brings her readers another brilliantly beautifully written story The Magic of Sea Glass! As with all of Jenny’s books this one will put a smile on your face, love in your heart, give you some great insight into life, and yes she even made me tear up a time or two. I think that was the first time that she made me tear up!

Can we talk about how breathtakingly beautiful The Magic of Sea Glass cover is?! All of Jenny’s covers are beautiful-but-this one spoke to me! The graphic design team nailed this one!

One thing I love about Jenny’s books is that she picks the most breathtaking sceneries to place her storyline in. Her descriptions and attention to detail make you feel like you are right there with the characters. Many times I wanted to jump into the book and experience what characters were.

Not only does Jenny pick the most picturesque places but she gives her characters incredibly interesting careers! For example Lauren the main character was a wedding planner. Brody’s hobby was a very special one as well.

The symbolism of the sea glass and how magical it truly is you look at it differently next time you see it. It is a big part of the story that touched my heart!

The Magic of Sea Glass deals with such topics: rediscovering yourself, coping with life after loss, letting go and moving on, and most of all family.

I smiled as Lauren’s hometown was NY as is mine!

This is another touching must read book 5 star read that needs to be added to your growing TBR list.

The Lost Man
A.S. Kelly
(From Connemara With Love, #6)
Publication date: May 3rd 2023
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

I left at dawn on a rainy day.
I left as he slept, believing that he’d still find me in his arms when he woke up. I left, taking everything I’d promised him. I took it all, and neither of us would ever have it again.
I left, turning my back on everything I knew, believing I could never be part of it.
I left the man who loved me, the family who raised me. I left my home, my roots, my dreams. I left my whole life behind in search of a past that was never mine. I hurt everyone who loved me, and broke him into so many pieces that I know I’ll never deserve his forgiveness.
But I’m here, now, trying to rebuild everything I’ve destroyed. I’m trying to find what I thought I’d lost. And although he says that he’ll never be the same, though he says that there’s nothing left of him, I can’t abandon him again. I can’t say goodbye to us.
They say that you always find your way back to happiness, but I’ve found my way back to the only place I’ve ever felt at home.
I’ve found my way back to him.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

“What are you watching?”

Noel turns his head slowly. I’m glad I thought to bring a set of keys out with me – he wouldn’t have heard me knocking, didn’t even hear me come into the room.

“You’re back.”

I walk over to him and sit beside him. “Of course I came back. Did you think I wouldn’t?”

He shakes his head a little, his eyes roaming back to the TV.

“Have you eaten?”

“I can’t remember… I think so…”

I force myself to smile, stroking his beard.

“Do you want me to make you something?”

“You don’t need to do that.”

“How about tea and biscuits? I’m going to make some for myself.”

He looks at me and flashes me a weak smile, which feels a little like hope; like the sun peeking through thick cloud.

“There are still some shortbread biscuits in the tin on the counter. I made them this morning.”

“You sure know how to make a woman happy,” I say, pressing my lips lightly against his before heading through to the kitchen to make us both some tea.

When I come back into the living room, I place the tray of tea and biscuits down on the coffee table and sink onto the sofa beside Noel. I drape the blanket over us both and squeeze him, my hand on his arm and my head on his shoulder.

You can’t abandon someone you love just because they’re not the same person you met a long time ago.

You can’t abandon someone you love just because they can’t find the way back home.

You can’t abandon someone you love just because they no longer love themselves.

“You have no idea how glad I am that you’re here,” he whispers, his voice uncertain, emotion caught up in his words, his breath.

“I’m home, Noel. With you.”

He lifts his arm and wraps it around me; I snuggle against his body and inhale his familiar scent. It reminds me that, in spite of everything, he’s still here, with me.

Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Miranda Rijks, Inkubator Books, NetGalley and Zooloo’s Book Tours for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

O.M.G!!! Miranda Rijks you made me want to hold my nieces and nephews a little bit tighter with The Other Mother! YES!! This totally addicting, jaw dropping, mind blowing psychological thriller is Mrianda’s most entertaining read to date! I absolutely loved it and could not get enough!! My one question is how in the world will she top this one?!

WOW!! The Other Mother’s book cover instantly caught my attention as it was so dark and mysterious. It made you wonder what the book was about. Kudos to the graphic designers on this one!

Miranda is a very creative storyteller and thinks outside of the box for this book! She instantly hooked me with her unique way of luring you in. I just knew that she was going to have a best seller on her hands.

Everyone will be talking about The Other Mother. It is a book that will stick with you way after you are done with it! Why do you ask? There are many times that pull hard core on your heart strings for so many characters. There are issues in the various storylines that you will be like omg she went there! So many facets to this story to love.

Boy oh boy were there a lot of secrets kept in this book with wild revelations, wicked twists and turns that will blow your mind, and ending nobody will see coming!! Oh this book is GOOD!!

Can we talk about how unique and creative some of the character names were? Some I had never heard of like Florrie, Aurora Rae, Nala (in the copy that I received),

Etc. I just love when authors think of different names to use. Makes the story fresher.

While reading this I often wondered what was the inspiration behind this book? It was a fresh look into a missing person case! This could have been something straight from the headlines!

Oh how I would LOVE to see The Other Mother turned into a Netflix series! It would be a smash hit that would have everyone binge watching!

If you have never read a Miranda Rijks book before I highly suggest you add this to your TBR pile! It is a must read that will keep you on the edge of your seat!
