 The Perfect Mother

All I wanted was to help women become mothers. When I met Alice Monroe, we instantly connected. She was as passionate about motherhood as I was, and I couldn't wait to support her through this life-changing experience.

But the day that should have been Alice’s happiest, turned into a nightmare. And after Alice’s dreams were shattered, she blamed me. Even though there was nothing I could have done, she wanted to ruin me. I lost my business, my reputation. My world fell apart.

Then, I discovered I was pregnant. That’s why we moved hundreds of miles away to the remote Derry countryside. Now, with this beautiful baby, we can have a fresh start.

But then Alice sends me a message. She knows where we are. And I realise, it doesn’t matter how far we’ve moved, I am not safe from her. My baby is not safe.

She would have been the perfect mother. But if she can’t have her happy family, she's not going to let me have mine.

Don't miss the brand-new nail-biting thriller from Claire! Perfect for fans of Valerie Keogh, Andrea Mara and Claire Douglas.

The Perfect Mother

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Claire Allan, Boldwood Books, Rachel’s Random Resources and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

If you are looking for a book that is a combination of psychological thriller and emotional read then you must check out The Perfect Mother by Claire Allan. Oh I knew this was going to be an emotional read just from the cover and the description of the book. However, what I was not expecting was how twisted it was going to be!

Claire automatically tugs on my heartstrings within the first few lines of the prologue. It kept getting better from there.

The Perfect Mother educated me on hyopobirthing and freebirthing as I had never heard never heard these terms or situations before. That aspect of the story was an interesting one.

Tilly pulled on my heart strings as she was an adorable child throughout the book.

The woman’s name blurs as tears spring into my eyes. I can’t believe my husband would betray me like this. But now he’s gone, she may be the only way to learn the truth about how he died…

Two years after my beloved Jonah was killed in a car accident, I retrace my steps to the romantic hotel we were staying in when his life was cut tragically short. The last thing I remember is the warmth of his hand in mine as we drove off through the pine trees towards our candlelit dinner. Then the beeping of monitors when I woke up alone in a hospital bed days later. What really happened that night?

But when I arrive at the hotel, a nervous-looking employee hands me my husband’s jacket. It still smells like him, and I discover something inside. A hastily scrawled note. Two words that turn my world upside down: call Gemma.

No one in Jonah’s life knows who Gemma could be. Flashes of an argument rush back to me painfully, and I feel myself fall apart. I remember his drunkenness, the sound of my own voice, heartbroken and betrayed. Did he use our anniversary to tell me he'd had an affair?

The truth will change everything I thought I knew about my marriage. Should I go home, and leave his secrets in the past? Or face the idea that I never really knew my husband at all?

Fans of Jodi Picoult, Liane Moriarty and The Last Thing He Told Me will be hooked by this unputdownable page-turner filled with shocking twists and tearjerking secrets.

Author Bio:

Anna E. Collins is a Seattle area author who writes stories about the lives and loves of women—their hopes, dreams, journeys, and relationships—with the goal of making readers both laugh and cry. She grew up in Sweden as a voracious reader with a vivid imagination but didn’t start writing fiction until after she had kids. By that point, she had worked as a high school teacher for several years, married an American, undertaken two international moves, and needed a new outlet.
Her first (gargantuan and unpublishable) venture into fiction sparked a passion for creating people and worlds that illustrate and illuminate aspects of the human experience that connect us. A couple more books and a master’s degree in educational psychology later, Anna decided to make writing more than a hobby, and she has never looked back. Whether writing women’s fiction or romantic comedies, Anna aspires to create characters that jump off the page and relationships that are as imperfect as the ones we find in everyday life. When not writing, Anna stays busy driving her teenage kids around, training her eternal canine companion, Archie the mini golden doodles, and engaging in other creative pursuits such as drawing, singing, and baking. Her husband is her biggest cheerleader.

His Other Life

First, I want to thank Anna E. Collins, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Anna E. Collins combines the past with the present to bring her readers this beautifully written read. You may need your tissues on hand if you are a cryer at emotional reads like I am.

I liked the taboo aspect of the book where the Dental Hygienist reached out to her patient to see how he was doing after the appointment. I know that was so wrong on so many levels…but it was the one storyline I liked. Oh and I commended her to be brave enough to call him!

I liked how the book went back in time and we got to see written letters from Maverick to Cass.

I have to stay awake… I need to keep him safe.

I haven’t slept properly since Riley was born. I love my baby so much – every noise he makes and every sleepy blink has me rushing to his side to make sure he’s safe.

Yet the lack of sleep is getting to me. There are terrifying blanks in my memory, and my temper is blindingly short. I can’t rely on my partner – I don’t even know where he is half the time. But at least I have Maggie next door. She tells me this is just what new motherhood is like, so I have no choice but to ignore the blackout rages and blurred vision, for Riley’s sake…

But after another night of no sleep, the last thing I expect is a police officer at my door. My neighbour has been found dead. The man I’ve been furious at for weeks for keeping me and the baby awake with his late-night parties.

Though really, maybe I shouldn’t be so surprised… Because this morning, I woke up on my doorstep. And I have no memory of what happened – or where the blood on my hands came from.

As I hear Riley start to cry, I swallow against the rising panic in my throat. It can’t have been me. I’m no killer, I’m just a sleep-deprived, loving mother… aren’t I?

An absolutely unputdownable, addictive suspense thriller with a jaw-dropping twist. Perfect for fans of gripping page-turners like The HousemaidThe Family Across the Street and The Family Upstairs.

While My Baby Sleeps

Written By Natali Simmonds

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Natali Simmonds, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Natali Simmonds brings her readers a new totally twisted tale that will have you on the edge of your seat in While My Baby Sleeps. This book is fast paced, addicting, intense, suspenseful, gripping, jaw dropping twists and turns and at times heartbreaking.

Within the first paragraph I was hooked by how dark and detailed the beginning was. The rest of the prologue followed suit with the same intensity. I knew I had been hooked.

Natali tackled a very important issue that predominantly dominated the book. However, later Natali educates us that in fact that this is an actual medical condition.

While My Baby Sleeps is one of those books where the story builds up and keeps getting better the deeper you get into it.
