Wiping away her tears, Kay looks at her old photos, of friends who have come and gone through life’s big moments. But then there’s Rose, her one constant through everything. Now Rose is missing. Does the key to finding her lie in their past?

It should have been the happiest day of Kay’s life. Getting married with her best friend and maid of honour, Rose at her side. But then Rose messages Kay moments before the ceremony, I’m so sorry. I can’t do this. Please don’t look for me. Kay is heartbroken. What could have possibly driven Rose to leave?

Kay doesn’t know a life without Rose in it. They’ve stuck together through thick and thin; getting each other through tough break-ups, the rollercoaster of children and losing Kay’s beloved mum.

Searching through a lifetime of belongings, desperate for clues, Kay finds a box of old photos. As she looks at pictures of them dancing with their friends from years ago, she suddenly wonders whether the key to finding Rose lies in their past. Writing down a list of long-lost friendships, Kay feels certain one of them will know what happened to Rose.

But as Kay begins to uncover a lifetime of memories to help her find her friend, will she also find herself?

An incredibly heartwarming and emotional novel for everyone who knows about holding on to true friendship through life’s big moments. Fans of Laura Pearson, Sally Page and Evie Woods will fall in love with this feel-good and moving story that shows it’s never too late for a second chance.

EXCERPT:

Rose’s seat was still empty.
The human brain can hold on to many things simultaneously. For me, right now, it was six.
1. Rose wasn’t here, and wasn’t answering her phone.
2. Something terrible must have happened.
3. But she was probably just late.
4. How much longer could we wait? We’d already stalled for half an hour.
5. The guests were becoming restless. It wasn’t quite warm enough to be sitting outside for as long as this. And my son Edward on piano, bless him, only knew three tunes – ‘knew’ was a euphemism – which he’d been playing on rotation.
6. We should start, but how could I get married without my best friend there? Without knowing if she was OK?

If you’re listening to this, I’ve been murdered.’

Eve is clearing her father’s house when she finds an old cassette player and a box of tapes. Though grieving, she smiles at the spark of nostalgia.

One tape is labelled ‘Eve’ – in her mother, Angela’s, scrawled handwriting. She disappeared for good more than ten years ago.

The tape whirrs. A voice crackles. ‘My name is Angela’. Tears fill Eve’s eyes at thefamiliar voice, at the thought this message is just for her. But the next words make her heart pound.

‘If they say I’m missing, I’m not. If you’re listening to this, I’ve been murdered.’

Desperate for answers, Eve has no one left to ask – only a box of tapes that could lead to the truth. But the more she listens, the more she realises she can never go to the police…

Because Eve’s mother had her own secrets. But what if her killer is still out there? And what if Eve is next?

An absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller that will have you racing through the pages late into the night! Anyone who loves Shari Lapena, John Marrs or Lisa Jewell will be totally addicted.

The Tapes

Written By Kerry Wilkinson

Review By Heidi Lynn’s Book Reviews

First, I want to thank Kerry Wilkinson, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Once again Kerry Wilkinson brings his readers another thrilling and addictive psychological thriller. The first thing that hooked me to the book was the title and the cover of the book. As a child growing up in the 80’s and 90’s I listened to cassette tapes religiously as I loved music. So, I was quite intrigued to see how Kerry was going to take me back to that time and use the tapes. Needless to say he did not disappoint.

I may be wrong but I think this is the first book of Kerry’s that actually pulled on my heart strings and could relate to. Where I actually shed a tear or two. I don’t think this was meant to happen in a psychological thriller when he was writing it but he struck a nerve with me. I could totally relate to cleaning out the character’s fathers house where he was a borderline hoarder who kept everything that ever meant anything to him. Reading this section of the book where this character heard his loved ones voice for the first time in 13 years come through. Oh the emotions I felt for this character as tears came to my eyes as I wish I could have had the same experience myself.

What was said on the tapes were shocking. There was one line that was said over and over that pulled hard on my heart strings- and I need you to know that I love you.

Kerry’s book is fast paced, twisted, suspenseful, addicting, and if you are like me it will pull on your heart strings.

The Therapist

Nicole Trope

Everyone thinks they can trust their therapist. We are good listeners. But what if we’re good liars, too?

The therapist: I love my job. People tell me their worries, their fears. Then Sandy becomes my patient. Something about her tears as she cries about her husband doesn’t feel right. But I tell her she can trust me. I promise to keep her secrets… for now.

The patient: I never should have married Mike. My head is a mess. All I want is for someone to listen. At least I can trust my therapist – she believes everything I say. And I’m going to show the world exactly what my dear husband is really like.

The husband: We used to be so happy. I just want my smiling, beautiful wife back. I was glad when Sandy signed up for therapy. But one day, Sandy doesn’t come home. I’m frantic. Then her therapist knocks on the door and says we need to talk… what has Sandy told her about our marriage?

Someone is missing. Someone is in danger. Someone is a liar. Who will you believe?

A completely unputdownable psychological thriller that will leave you not knowing who to believe, from million-copy bestselling Nicole Trope. Anyone who loves Shari Lapena or Lisa Jewell will be totally addicted!

First, I want to thank Nicole Trope, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

WOW!!! The Therapist is one of Nicole Trope best psychological thriller’s if not the best and deserve’s more than 5 stars!! I absolutely loved the totally twisted storyline that was intertwined into this fast paced addicting page turner. This is one read that would be interesting to see unfold as a Netflix series.

The graphic artists once again did their magic and created an amazing eye catching cover! This cover however went above and beyond and screamed read me!! Along with the cover, the description of the book, the title and being a fan of Nicole’s writing I knew this was a book I had to read. I am so glad that I did.

Instantly, Nicole sucks you into her fast paced storyline and grabs your attention fast and keeps it there throughout the whole book. This makes me happy when an author does this!

Oh this story had a lot of family drama, wicked twists and turns, and shocking moments! This is a must read!
